CYTOLOGY SPUTUM | CYTOF | Sputum, 1-5 mL Instruct the patient to collect specimen early in the morning before eating. Cough deeply from the lungs and deposit the sputum directly into the methyl alcohol preservative in the specimen container. Collect specimens on 3 consecutive mornings. Keep specimen refrigerated. CYTOLOGY URINE | CYTOF | Urine, 25-100 mL State if voided or catheterized urine collection Instruct the patient to drink one glass of water every 30 minutes for a period of 3 hours. Patient may urinate during this 3 hour period and discard urine. At the end of the 3 hour period, when the next urge to urinate arises, void directly into the methyl alcohol preservative in the specimen container. Suggest specimens be collected on 3 consecutive days. Keep specimen refrigerated. Complete a Cytology Form for each sample.
